DETROIT—Understanding that small businesses play a vital role in any neighborhood, Henry Ford Health, The Detroit Pistons and Michigan State University have created a plan to drive job creation and foster innovation around their development in the New Center neighborhood.

The mission-driven partners, known collectively through the City of Detroit’s Community Benefit Ordinance process as the Future of Health: Detroit Development Team, are collectively investing more than $3 billion to turn New Center into a vibrant, walkable community with state-of-the art academic healthcare, medical research, residential, commercial, retail and recreational components.

Construction is ongoing and is expected to last through 2029.

The plan to prioritize small business during and after the construction periods focuses on the following priorities:
Promoting existing small businesses in the impacted area.
Supporting community activations geared toward small businesses.
Engaging with small businesses to provide products and services to Henry Ford Health, the Pistons and MSU.
Creating and providing opportunities for small business presence within the development.
