Volunteering at Henry Ford West Bloomfield

You can make a difference

Everyone wants to do something significant in their lifetime. One way some people are doing that is by volunteering. How could one possibly measure the value of holding the hand of a recently diagnosed cancer patient, of comforting a hospitalized child, or offering companionship to a lonely patient? These are just a few of the kindnesses extended to others by our team of dedicated volunteers. There's something curious about giving: What you give has a way of coming back to you. In fact, volunteers at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital aren't here long before they realize they are getting back as much as they're giving.

Our volunteers have the opportunity to learn, explore health careers, make new friends, develop new skills, and most of all enjoy the satisfaction that comes from helping others. Are you ready to receive the rich rewards of the Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital volunteer experience?

Who are our volunteers?

Our volunteer family is a unique blend of community members. They include teens, college students, professionals, retirees, individuals looking for a career change, and people with time to give.

What do they do?

Some of the important things they do are: greet our guests with a smile and escort them to their destination, get a blanket for a patient who is feeling cold, comfort family members, provide healing music, conduct pet therapy visits, and support our staff by performing various administrative duties.

When do they volunteer?

Volunteering fits into everyone's schedule. Volunteers can work any time of the day or night, any day of the week. The Volunteer Services Department asks that volunteers commit at least four hours a week for at least 12 weeks. However, many eagerly volunteer much more because they love what they do, and they love the people.

Where do they volunteer?

Areas volunteers work in include the retail shops, emergency, pharmacy, patient transport, radiology, surgery, food service, environmental safety, nursing units, and the various clinics. Some volunteers work on special projects such as fundraisers, tours, and other special events.
