Mentoring and Peer Review
Mentoring
At Henry Ford Hospital we are committed to hiring, supporting and retaining compassionate, talented nurses. All nurses are assigned a mentor for a six-month period following the completion of unit/department orientation.
Mentoring is a one-to-one trusting relationship that encompasses supporting, guiding, coaching, teaching, role modeling, counseling, advocating, and networking. Mentoring promotes co-sharing, co-discovery, and co-growth.
Goals of our Clinical Nurse Mentor Program
- To support the growth and development of nurses as they transition off orientation.
- To foster the development of a strong nursing community.
- To enhance the leadership skills of nurses as they engage in the mentoring process.
- Nurse retention and recruitment.
Nurse Peer Review
Henry Ford Hospital's Nurse Peer Review Committee has been implemented in the spirit of continuous improvement, patient safety, continuous learning and the System's High Reliability Organization initiative.
Peer review in nursing is the process by which practicing registered nurses systematically access, monitor and review the quality of nursing care provided by peers as measured against professional standards of practice.
The primary goal of nursing peer review is to ensure optimal patient care is delivered by measuring actions against current standards and evidence-based practices.
The Nurse Peer Review Committee is comprised of clinical nurses from all practice areas. Cases are reviewed to learn opportunities for process improvement and care deliveries.
