Orthopedic Surgery

Duration: 4 weeks

Distribution of student's time:
40% inpatient care
50% outpatient care
10% conferences/lectures

Average number of patients seen each week: 10-15

On-call responsibility: Every 3 days

Enrollment/Period: 2 maximum, upon availability

Prerequisites: None

Clerkship Objective: Increase student knowledge of orthopedic diagnosis and treatment.

Evaluation:

  • Quality of care given
  • Participation and performance in conferences
  • Level of knowledge
  • Ability to participate in patient care clinics and in operating room

Method to be used in student evaluation: Observation of performance by faculty

Description:
There will be four-week-long rotations in different sections of the Orthopedic Department, including Arthritis Surgery, Hand Surgery, Foot and Ankle Surgery, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, Spine Surgery, Sports Medicine and Surgery and Orthopedic Trauma Surgery. Courses are appropriate for those considering careers in Orthopedic or other surgery specialties.
