Pharmacy Residency FAQs

What are the on-call requirements for the program?

There is no on-call requirement for either PGY1 or PGY2 programs. The PGY1 program does require resident to staff a weekday afternoon from 16:00 – 21:00 every other week. There is no weekday afternoon component for the PGY2 program.

What teaching opportunities are available?

Henry Ford Macomb Hospital is closely affiliated with Wayne State University, so precepting pharmacy students is an expectation of residents. The PGY1 residents are expected participate in a longitudinal teaching program through Wayne State University, where they will have monthly meetings and workshops to enhance their teaching skills. They will work with a professor to provide a lecture or problem-based learning (PBL) case for pharmacy students at Wayne State University.

Are your residents required to work holidays?

Residents are required to assist with holiday coverage during the residency year. The residents will each choose 2 of the following 4 holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Memorial Day. In the event that the residents cannot agree on whom will work which holiday, they will be assigned by the RAC. Holiday selections for the year must be submitted to the RPD/designee by the end of the incoming residents’ initial orientation.

What elective rotations do you offer?

There are no electives for either PGY1 or PGY2 programs. The last for rotation for each program is the Independent Practice or Capstone Experience, where the resident can choose to repeat a previously completed rotation with direct patient care, such as Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Medical Critical Care, Oncology, Surgical Critical Care, or Antimicrobial Stewardship.

How is the resident evaluated?

All evaluations are completed within PharmAcademic.

What benefits are offered?

The residency program provides a competitive stipend and the following benefits: health insurance, paid time off, and professional travel reimbursement. Also, educational leave is provided to attend local, regional, and national meetings.

Does your residency accept applicants with pending/current H1B Visas?

At this time, we do not accept applicants with H1B Visa status.
