The Henry Ford Hospital Rheumatology Division has been involved in fellow education for over 50 years. The Rheumatology Fellowship Program prepares trainees for certification in the subspecialty by the American Board of Internal Medicine. The fellowship program provides an extensive clinical experience in rheumatology, the opportunity for significant research and a setting to acquire the skills of scholarship in the sub-specialty.

Our fellows receive their education and training at Henry Ford Hospital, a nationally renowned specialty care, teaching, and research institution that is the flagship of Henry Ford Health. Henry Ford Health is one of the largest and most respected integrated health care delivery systems in the country, with more than 2.2 million patient visits annually.

  • Years of training: 2
  • Number of positions: 2 per year (candidates must have 3 years of training in internal medicine with subsequent certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine before or during fellowship training)


To provide each fellow with the knowledge and clinical experience required to independently practice in the specialty of rheumatology. To foster a sense of professionalism, morality, and ethics to treat patients with dignity and adherence to evidence-based practices. Committed to representing and reflecting the unique experiences, perspectives, and viewpoints of our trainees, partners, and the communities we serve.


  • To strengthen the necessary cognitive, clinical, interpersonal, and professional skills, which we believe are the necessary attributes of a fully qualified rheumatologist.
  • Instill a sense of professionalism and integrity in all physicians who train in our program as it relates to physician accountability, humanistic qualities, and professional ethics.
  • Promote life-long self-directed learning habits to all Rheumatology fellows.
