Hematology & Oncology Fellowship

Program Director’s Welcome

The time a fellow spends during their fellowship training to mature as a professional Hematologist and Oncologist is a unique amalgamation of changes that come together to create a strong foundation for a future career and life to be built on. The training period at Henry Ford Hospital empowers our fellows to acquire the skills and experiences required for a rewarding professional life.

The initial year is spent in various rotations designed towards a steep acquisition of specialty specific knowledge. Our fellows gain competence and confidence through exposure to various clinics with a wide range of patients and pathologies, case review conferences, journal clubs, didactics, and opportunities for research activities. The fellowship culminates in the development of advanced clinical expertise in various disease specific subspecialities where fellows gradually develop the skills to become ABIM board certified independent practitioners. The structure of the fellowship program allows flexibility for each fellow to achieve their specific goals while ensuring a sound foundation in general Hematology and Medical Oncology.

Fellowship training typically happens at a phase of life when both professional and personal lives are actively building. In recognition of the changes taking place during this time, the program caters to the needs of trainees in order to maintain a balance between professional and personal obligations. We pride ourselves in the diverse backgrounds of our fellows which enriches the training program and the work environment at large. The exposure to a wide variety of pathologies and the expertise of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute comprised of interprofessional teams of physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, nurse navigators, case managers, medical assistants and infusion center personnel equips our fellows with the collective skills and experience to function seamlessly in any future work environment.
On a personal note, it is a privilege to be a part of the training years of future colleagues and to witness their journey as they blossom into professional Hematologists and Oncologists, ready to contribute their own service to patients, the society, and to science.
