Movement Disorders Fellowship

The Henry Ford Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center offers a one-, to two-year fellowship where fellows will be involved in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide spectrum of movement disorders including:

• Parkinson’s disease
• Essential tremor
• Dystonia
• Huntington’s disease
• Other secondary, genetic movement disorders

Fellows also have the opportunity to learn deep brain stimulation (DBS) programing and utilization of botulinum toxin for the treatment of various movement disorders. Our team includes two neurosurgeons who perform both MER-guided and MRI-guided deep brain stimulation surgical implantation and there are opportunities to learn about intraoperative monitoring if interested.

The fellowship is largely an outpatient experience. The fellow(s) will primarily spend their time at the Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital outpatient clinic and Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Didactic curriculum includes journal clubs and case discussions. Fellows will have the opportunity to attend the Aspen Movement Disorders course and the Cleveland Clinic Botulinum toxin course.

Research Track

The Henry Ford Movement Disorders program has been a leading center for development of new therapeutics for Parkinson’s disease other movement disorders, and the recipient of funding from NIH and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Mentored research opportunities are encouraged during the fellowship. A research track is available for those at that interested.

Henry Ford Movement Disorders Program accepts two fellows per year, with the option to extend into a second year of fellowship if desired. Henry Ford will be participating in the San Francisco Match for the July 2020 fellowship. The San Francisco Match applications open in April for PGY3 (1 year prior to starting fellowship) and match results will be announced mid-September.
