Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship

Program Director: Surya Prasad Nalamati, M.D.
Program Coordinator: Denise Talbot

Henry Ford Hospital /Wayne State University Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Program is a one-year ACGME accredited program, which strives to provide a well-rounded training experience. Our program produces excellent colorectal surgeon leaders who promote practice of ethical, compassionate, cost effective and evidence-based care in the communities they serve.

The program ensures effective training of the fellow by mentorship, structured didactics and through research activities. We currently have six full-time dedicated core faculty and one part-time senior staff with diverse fellowship training backgrounds, providing the fellow with exposure to different operative styles and techniques.

The training is centered at a tertiary care hospital with multiple suburban clinics and endoscopy sites with a large referral base. It provides the colorectal surgery fellow an opportunity to care for patients afflicted with broad spectrum of pathology and across diverse socio- economic strata. Our program is unique in providing supervised autonomy and flexibility to the fellow for planning weekly schedules between clinic, endoscopy and operating room based on their educational needs. We also encourage the colorectal fellow to be actively involved in teaching of rotating medical students, and surgical residents.

We are committed to train locally and nationally recognized colorectal surgeons who can independently practice all aspects of colon and rectal surgery including endoscopy, open surgery, advanced surgical techniques such as laparoscopic, robotic and natural orifice surgery.
