About the program

The fellowship in Behavioral Neurology is a United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) certified program which provides training in the management of patients with Neurobehavioral disorders in the Department of Neurology. Close collaborations with other neurology subspecialties and with diagnostic neuroradiology, neurosurgery, genetics, psychiatry, speech pathology, neuropsychology, pathology and laboratory services, allow for a broad exposure to treatment options for Neurobehavioral patients. This is a one-year program with the option of a second year available. We accept one fellow per year.

Following completion of the program, the fellow is eligible to sit for the board certification examination in Behavioral Neurology by the UCNS. (The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology also requires that the applicant also has successfully passed the board examination in Neurology).

This program emphasizes a multi-disciplinary team based diagnosis and treatment of behavioral disorders in which fellows will work with Alzheimer’s Association social workers, psychometrists, and geriatric nurse practitioner specialists all of whom provide specific inputs to the evaluation and treatment plans in a Memory Disorders Clinic.

In addition to gaining expertise in the targeted history and neurological exam for behavioral disorders, fellows will develop skills in identifying and treating medical and sleep comorbidities, performing functional and behavioral assessments, facility in both administering and interpreting a wide variety of neuropsychological tools related to dementia and focal behavioral syndromes, and indications for and interpretation of advanced MRI, glucose and amyloid PET scans, fMRI, CSF biomarkers, and genetic testing.

Our team

The Henry Ford Health Behavioral Neurology multidisciplinary team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, other allied health professionals, and support staff that provide primary and consultative care to patients with neurobehavioral disorders in a tertiary setting. We are proud of our unique Alzheimer’s Association collaborative, with clinic- based social workers as an integral part of our team.
