Our Wellness Philosophy
Addressing well-being is essential not only for the health of providers themselves, but also critical to patient care quality and safety. Our hospital has been focusing on well-being of residents and fellows for over 20 years.
Physician and physician trainee well-being vs. burnout has been sometimes called a "wicked problem!" The issue is complex with interdependent causes. Our approach is to address multiple aspects of providers well-being, recognizing that interventions in one area may affect other components. We subscribe to the Stanford Model of Professional Fulfillment, which envisions well-being efforts targeting three different areas simultaneously:
1) addressing efficiency of practice (we work on system-level supports)
2) encouraging a culture of wellness (We encourage program level supports)
3) developing personal resilience (We provide evidence based individual-level supports)
