Hospital Medicine Division
Division Head: Matthew George, MD.
Our Division has nearly 70 hospitalist physicians and 20 APPs. Our hospitalists provide 24/7 coverage for approximately 350 patients a day across our four campuses in Detroit, West Bloomfield, Wyandotte, and Macomb. We also provide general medical consultation for any patient at these hospitals.
Patient care
Our hospitalists manage patients in the General Practice Unit, Observation Unit, Cardiac Telemetry Unit, and Progressive Care Unit. We provide inpatient medical consultation services at all sites and also provide ambulatory preoperative medical consultation in the Optimization Clinic at Henry Ford Hospital. At Henry Ford Hospital we serve as the admitting physicians for patients with advanced heart failure, many of whom are receiving therapy with a left ventricular assist device (LVAD), as well as patients admitted for management of advanced structural heart disease.
Quality and patient safety
The general medical units managed by our Division feature a unique team model of collaboration to improve patient safety and quality care. We participate in a broad array of quality and safety initiatives at each hospital and throughout the Henry Ford Health System.
Medical education
Our hospitalist faculty provides clinical education for residents and fellows, nurses, and other health professionals at Henry Ford hospitals as well as supervision and training to residents who rotate through the various units managed by our group. For example, the teaching service for residents includes a focus on development of core competencies in hospital patient care, quality improvement, and an opportunity to gain autonomy in patient management.
