Our Division offers advanced care for the full range of endocrine conditions, with special expertise in diabetes, thyroid, osteoporosis, pituitary and adrenal disease. We have a long history of NIH-funded clinical research in advanced diabetes management and bone and mineral disorders. We work closely with specialists in endocrine and thyroid surgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics, nuclear medicine, transplantation and other specialty areas, to provide a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Our two-year fellowship program offers four positions.
Clinical highlights
Our endocrinologists are expert in the diagnosis of complex endocrine conditions and serve as a referral center for patients in Michigan and neighboring states. Since the 1950s we have pioneered diabetes management and research and have the largest experience in Michigan with insulin pumps, newer therapies, intensive glucose management, and continuous glucose monitoring devices. Henry Ford has a rich legacy in bone and mineral disorders, and we offer expertise in osteoporosis, kidney stones, and other bone disorders.
Research
Our diabetes group participated in the landmark Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) as well as the follow-up studies, the Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (EDIC) and the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD). We continuously offer clinical trial therapies, new medications, and delivery devices to improve diabetes management. The Bone and Mineral Research Unit runs NIH-funded clinical trials on a variety of bone disorders. We were the first bone histomorphometry center in the US, and currently one of only two such centers in the Midwest.
Education
Residents and Endocrinology fellows are exposed to a wide variety of endocrine disorders and have the opportunity to see unusual cases via our large referral base. They learn how to deliver comprehensive, team-based care, and participate in our many research endeavors.
