Why focus on AMS TOC?

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and adverse events from such agents are a public health concern.

The CDC reports:

• At least 2 million people are infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria
• At least 23,000 people die as a result of AMR in the United States
• Inappropriate antimicrobial agent prescribing practices lead to AMR
• 70% of necessary antimicrobial prescriptions from the emergency room and doctors’ offices need to have sub-optimal drug selection, dose and duration of therapy
• 30% of antimicrobial prescriptions from the emergency room and doctors’ offices are not necessary
