Art Workshops with Detroit College of Creative Studies
The arts have powerful healing properties because art connects your mind and your body. Henry Ford has teamed up with Detroit's College for Creative Studies to connect our patients and their loved ones with a series of art workshops led by CCS instructors. All supplies are provided at no cost, but please register to participate- space is limited!
Dates Offered:
Art Journals: Restoring the Mind & Body through Art
Explore the profound healing powers of art within the pages of a personal journal. Participants will experiment with a variety of mixed-media techniques to translate complex emotions into visual stories, fostering a sense of peace and self-discovery. Each session provides a supportive environment to practice mindfulness, using tactile expression to restore the mind and body.
Facilitator is local artist Sabrina Nelson.

Fabric Manipulation and Upcycled Fashion
This workshop series invites participants to breathe new life into forgotten textiles through the creative lens of sustainable design and self-expression. Students will master a variety of fabric manipulation techniques—including pleating, layering, and structural stitching—to transform secondhand garments into wearable works of art. By merging traditional craftsmanship with modern upcycling, this course empowers makers to reduce waste while developing a unique, eco-conscious fashion aesthetic. This class will take place at CCS Taubman Center. Bring gently used garments with you. Sewing machines and supplies provided.
