Research and Additional Training Opportunities

Research opportunities

Every fellow participates in individually selected clinical research projects.

Active clinical research projects are currently being conducted in the areas of:

  • Hemodialysis adequacy
  • Hemodialysis catheter-related blood stream infections
  • Citrate anticoagulation during SLED
  • Home hemodialysis outcomes
  • Any new research projects, such as any related to dialysis access and transplant

Additional training opportunities

  • The Nephrology Division offers an ASTP-accredited fellowship in renal transplantation, open to graduates of accredited Nephrology fellowships.
  • In conjunction with the Critical Care Division, Nephrology fellows are also eligible to apply for a third year of training in Critical Care Medicine. Fellows successfully completing this program will be qualified to sit for both Nephrology and Critical Care Boards. This is separate from the integrated 3-year combined Nephrology and Critical Care track, in which fellows spend 8 months in Nephrology and 4 months in Critical Care during each of 3 years, which also confers eligibility for both Board exams.
