Headache Medicine Fellowship
The one-year, UCNS-accredited Headache Medicine Fellowship at Henry Ford Health offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary experience in the diagnosis and treatment of headache and facial pain disorders. Based in Detroit, Michigan, with training at both Henry Ford Hospital and suburban outpatient centers, the fellowship prepares physicians for clinical and academic excellence in headache medicine.
Diverse Clinical Training
Fellows benefit from hands-on experience across urban and suburban clinical settings, including Henry Ford Hospital and Henry Ford Bloomfield Township. This ensures exposure to a broad range of headache conditions in varied patient populations.
The program includes:
- Robust outpatient clinic experience
- A half-day pediatric headache clinic every other week, offering valuable cross-age training
Advanced Procedural Training
Fellows are trained in evidence-based, interventional therapies, including:
- OnabotulinumtoxinA for chronic migraine
- Peripheral nerve blocks
- Sphenopalatine ganglion blocks
- Trigger point injections
Training also includes experience in a dedicated 7-bay Migraine Infusion Center at Henry Ford Bloomfield Township, where patients receive acute and rescue treatments in an outpatient setting.
Specialized Expertise in CSF Leak Care
Henry Ford is one of the few centers in the Midwest actively diagnosing and managing spontaneous intracranial hypotension (CSF leaks). Our fellowship offers meaningful exposure to this complex area, with referrals coming from across the region.
Robust Academic Environment
The fellowship emphasizes scholarship and collaboration:
- Weekly multidisciplinary case conferences with neuroradiology for in-depth discussion of complex cases
- Opportunities for clinical research, quality improvement projects, and teaching
- Close mentorship from experienced faculty throughout the year
