Community Health Equity
Unfortunately, across Michigan, many struggle with socioeconomic circumstances that create disparities in their quality of health. These non-medical factors — known collectively as social determinants of health — have profound biological consequences and dictate the quality of a person’s life far more than the medical care they receive.
That’s why Henry Ford Health’s commitment extends beyond our doors and out into the neighborhoods we serve. Improving our communities’ quality of life and making breakthrough medicine available to all are key elements of our vision for Michigan’s future. Our institution is a nonprofit not only in name but in spirit — a place where caring for people, rather than the bottom line, is the ultimate goal.
With your support, this campaign will accelerate our commitment to delivering accessible healthcare for all and developing inclusive medical careers and research representative of the diverse communities we serve.
Campaign Priorities
-
Educational Pathway ProgramsDonors can help advance programs, community partnerships and more that improve opportunities and create career development pathways across our enterprise. This includes programs like our Readying Youth Scientists for Excellence in Medicine, Health Equity and Discovery (RYSE MED) program. RYSE MED aims to support students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine and who face structural barriers to pursuing careers in healthcare and research.
-
Extending World-Class CareThrough innovative partnership, Henry Ford is providing care pathways for vulnerable communities in compassionate and patient-centered ways at the Ruth Ellis Center Clairmont Center in Detroit. Donors can support this dedicated clinic that provides equitable and gender-affirming care and other services to LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.
-
Dynamic Community ProgrammingDonors can advance impactful programs like the Women-Inspired Neighborhood (WIN) Network: Detroit, formed in 2008 by the Detroit Regional Infant Mortality Reduction Task Force as a collaboration of health systems to address persistently high infant mortality rates in the region and gaping health disparities. Together these organizations and donors are committed to find lasting, collaborative solutions that help create healthy pregnancies and deliveries.
