Meet the Associate Program Director
Dr. Hammond brings a holistic, person-centered approach to psychiatric education and patient care, grounded in a deep curiosity about human development and relationships. After earning an undergraduate degree in Biology and Evolutionary Anthropology from the University of Michigan, Dr. Hammond pursued osteopathic medicine at Touro University California, driven by a commitment to treating the whole person rather than just symptoms.
During psychiatry residency at Hennepin-Regions in Minneapolis, Dr. Hammond developed a novel curriculum on race and intergroup dialogue for residents, drawing on prior experience facilitating intergroup dialogue at the University of Michigan. This commitment to understanding diverse perspectives and fostering meaningful conversations continues to inform her approach to medical education.
Dr. Hammond returned to her home state to complete fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at DMC/Wayne State University before joining the Henry Ford faculty in 2022. Since then, she has been instrumental in developing the therapy curriculum for fellows and actively shaping educational programming for the next generation of child and adolescent psychiatrists.
In clinical practice, Dr. Hammond provides care for the full spectrum of pediatric psychiatric conditions, with expertise in developmental disabilities including intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders. She also particularly enjoys family-based interventions, working with families to understand conflict through an attachment lens.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hammond enjoys spending time with her two children and hiking in Michigan's forests, staying connected to the natural world that first sparked her interest in understanding the "why" behind human behavior.
