What is Medicaid?
Medicaid is a health care plan for low income people, and working families who qualify. Children and pregnant women may also qualify for special Medicaid programs. People who have disabilities, and older people who meet income guidelines, may also get Medicaid.
Are you eligible for Medicaid?
- You must be a citizen of the U.S. (in most cases)
- You must be a legal resident of the state in which you apply
- You must have a Social Security Number, or have applied for one

To apply for Medicaid, please visit your local Department of Human Services (DHS) office. If you need help, your spouse, parent, legal guardian, adult child, stepchild, or any other person who is at least age 18 or older may apply for you. The DHS can also help you apply.
