Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program

This program aims to reduce the risk of pregnancy, HIV, and other STIs as well as assist teens with developing effective communication skills to avoid risky sexual behaviors, transmission of STIs, and unintended pregnancies while building healthy relationships with peers, parents, family members, partners and other trusted adults to communicate decisions about sex and potential consequences.

Services:

Peer education program:

The Peer Education Program is designed to give students the opportunity to grow and develop community outreach and facilitation skills necessary to help other teens build healthier lifestyles. Peer Educators facilitate HIV, STI and pregnancy prevention information to their peers (13-19 years old) in community group settings.

• Peer Educators will be a paid Henry Ford Health System Employee
• Peer Educators Must be a current high school student in the 10th -12th grade with a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Youth programs

• Abstinence skills
• Contraceptive methods to reducing risk of STIs and pregnancy
• Facts about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and prevention
• Financial, social, and emotional health consequences of STIs and teen pregnancy
• Goal-setting skills and setting personal boundaries
• Identifying, avoiding, and escaping risky situations
• Positive relationship building skills with friends and family

Parent programs

• Contraceptive methods to reducing risk of STIs and pregnancy
• Facts about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and prevention
• Parent-Child communication skills
• Positive relationship building skills
