Didactic Program

Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology, attended by all PGY-2 ophthalmology residents after the first six months of training. This is a 4 week course void of any call duties and patient care responsibilities enabling PGY-2 residents time to focus on studying and team building. Previous courses have included University of Houston and Columbia University.

Resident Lectures based on the AAO Basic Science Clinical Science Course - presented 3-4 times a week by teaching faculty.

Comprehensive Cataract Surgery Lecture Series covering cataract surgery from beginning to the end - i.e. from patient selection to perioperative and post- operative patient care.

Departmental Grand Rounds occur 3-4 times per month and provide opportunities for residents and staff to present and discuss noteworthy cases.

System-Wide Grand Rounds held monthly from August through May and feature nationally-recognized speakers and visiting professors.

Case Reviews with Visiting Professors are held after System-Wide Grand Rounds - affording opportunities for residents to present specialty-specific cases and participate in discussions facilitated by our visiting professors.

Morbidity and Mortality Conferences are held each month. Residents are required to present at least one structured M & M case during their training.

Board Review Sessions are led by dedicated faculty during the months leading up to the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) examinations.

Residents' Study Group is led by senior residents and is designed to prepare residents for the OKAPs.

Ophthalmology Journal Club is facilitated by a dedicated staff and is held approximately 6 times each year.
