What you need to know

The visitor policy has been revised to allow visitors in our facilities, with limitations at some hospitals and medical centers. Please check the visitor policy of the hospital you are visiting for hours and other hospital-specific details. Our medical center visitor restrictions are listed below.

Policies may restrict the numbers of visitors at our facilities until the transmission of COVID-19 is no longer a threat. As we can safely allow more visitors, we will do so.

We recognize the importance of love and support when a patient is hospitalized or receiving care. Because our patient care philosophy depends greatly on engaging families as part of the healing process, any decision to restrict visitation and limit family presence is difficult. However, the health and safety of our patients and employees is of utmost importance. 

Safety Practices for all care settings

• All patients, visitors and staff are screened for COVID-19.
• Patients and visitors are no longer required to wear masks in our facilities. You are welcome to keep wearing a mask if you feel more comfortable. If you are immunocompromised or visiting someone who is immunocompromised in our hospitals, or have cold-like or COVID-19 related symptoms we kindly ask you to continue to wear a mask.
• All visitors should remain with the patient except for quick trips to the bathroom or to purchase food.
• All visitors should refrain from eating, drinking or sharing patient's restroom while visiting with inpatients.
• For your safety, we strongly discourage visitors who are at high risk of developing severe complications from COVID-19, including older adults and persons with underlying medical conditions.

Visitors allowed in all care settings

• Visitors accompanying patients who have physical, cognitive or mental disabilities of any kind and require assistance, including patients who are deaf, hard of hearing or blind.
• Visitors who are needed as power of attorney, surrogate decision-making, or court-appointed guardianship.
• Chaplain/clergy - at any reasonable time as long as the visit does not disrupt clinical care.

Outpatient visitor restrictions

• Patients who have an appointment at a Henry Ford medical center or clinic, who are coming in for lab or radiology services may have up to two persons with them if social distancing can be maintained.
• Pediatric patients can have two parents/caregivers with them. Patient sibling(s) may accompany the parent when necessary.
• For pregnant patients, a spouse/partner may attend the patient's prenatal, ultrasound and NST appointments.
  • Patients in an OB Emergency or Triage Department may have one support person who should remain in the patient room at all times.
  • The support person may not switch out with another visitor.
• Patients in the Emergency Department may have 1 visitor after passing the screening. Visitors may switch with one other visitor. If the patient is critically ill, 2 visitors will be allowed.
