Paper Quilt
Sometimes you just want to create something beautiful that doesn’t take a lot of work. Art making is soothing and meditative and doesn’t need to be complicated! Humans are all creative, trust yourself and your ability to create - you don’t need any special training.
Start with Shapes
Think about a simple quilt - they are one large piece of fabric made up of many smaller pieces. You can create a stunning quilt using only triangles of different colors and patterns of fabric, pieced together in a multitude of ways. You could piece these triangles together in a specific order, or you could combine them in random ways. The end result will be beautiful either way.
Try This
To create your own paper quilt, start with your paper.
- Plain copy paper can be cut into a square, then cut into triangles to begin.
- You can then color each triangle in various combinations and patterns.
- Then, arrange and rearrange your pieces until you like the final result.
- With glue (glue stick would be great for this), mount your final design onto a new piece of paper or cardstock.
- Your paper quilt is ready for framing!
Other options for paper could be:
- Origami paper, which is already square and has beautiful designs and colors so it would eliminate two steps!
- Cut up paper from old art projects that you want to recycle
My mini paper quilt is made using small paper triangles that I found at a recycle and reuse art material store. They are perfect and simple, allowing me to enjoy the process of arranging colors, relaxing, and giving my brain and body a little time to reset.
What will you create?!
