The Dermatology Residency Program at Henry Ford Hospital was established in 1954. The program offers exceptional clinical training with exposure to a wide diversity of diseases in multiple skin types. We offer a three-year program (PGY-2 through PGY-4), which begins after the successful completion of a PGY-1 year.

Our department is located at the New Center One area of Detroit, MI - just a few blocks from the Henry Ford Hospital's main campus. Residents also rotate at satellite clinics in the suburban cities of Troy, West Bloomfield, Grosse Pointe Farms and Novi.

Our faculty is diverse and dedicated to the education program. We have many talented faculty members who hold sub-specialty dermatology clinics and also participate in research activities.

Our patient population is quite diverse - coming from varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. We see patients with acute and chronic dermatologic issues. Patients can be referred from dermatologists, primary care physicians, other specialists, and self-referred, which provides a broad clinical experience. Experience in multiple subspecialty clinics, resident continuity clinics, Mohs surgery, resident surgery clinics, dermatopathology, pediatric dermatology, and inpatient consultations are all core elements to the residency training experience.

Residents are actively involved in learning how to teach - they participate in the education of other residents, medical students and visiting residents. Resident autonomy and graduated responsibility is encouraged and fostered throughout the program.

Medical students

Henry Ford Hospital Department of Dermatology offers a one month clinical rotation to students who are in Year III or Year IV of medical school at an accredited school in the U.S. If interested please complete the elective program application. Medical dermatology is practiced by many of our faculty. We manage patients with immunobullous disorders, connective tissue diseases, and patients requiring biologic therapies. Our New Center One clinic houses the day hospital unit. Patients are treated here with Goeckerman-type therapies or photopheresis. The phototherapy unit uses a wide range of state-of-the-art photo technology with BBUVB, NBUVB, PUVA, UVA-1, phototesting, photopatch testing and excimer laser. Our pediatric subspecialty clinic is run by a triple-boarded pediatric dermatologist with interests in vascular lesions and epidermolysis bullosa.

The mission of the residency program in the Department of Dermatology at Henry Ford Health is to train and educate residents to become local and national leaders, who excel in providing general dermatology care and with knowledge in numerous dermatology subspecialty fields. Aims:

• To provide training in dermatologic disease such that the resident completing the training program shall be an expert in the disease of the hair, nail, skin and adjacent mucosa. We will provide a curriculum that is well rounded and engaging. Our diverse clinical setting provides both general dermatology and numerous subspecialty clinics
